'Splendours of Mesopotamia' was the first exhibition for the forthcoming Zayed National Museum and was organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi in partnership with the British Museum and curated by Nigel Tallis. This accompanying book celebrates the achievements of ancient Mesopotamian society (modern-day Iraq, Kuwait, Syria and south-eastern Turkey). It includes an essay on Assyria by Nigel Tallis and contributions by John Curtis; Sarah Collins; Michael Seymour; and Walid Yasin. Alongside such treasures as the Assyrian Reliefs are artefacts found in Abu Dhabi from the Hafit and Umm an-Nar cultures, demonstrating ancient links with the Sumer civilisation. This book illustrates how knowledge has been passed on from the ancient to the modern world, particularly in science, communication, the arts and literature.
