The exhibition 'A History of the World in 100 Objects' in 2010 presented the universal story of humanity through some of the world's most precious artefacts. This book accompanied the Abu Dhabi exhibition and narrates the themes of: Beginnings, 2500 - 2000 BCE; The First Cities, 3000-700 BCE; Power and Philosophy, 700 BCE-100 CE; Ritual and Belief, 1-800 CE; Trading and Invading, 300-1100 CE; Innovation and Adaptation, 900-1550 CE; Encounters and Connections, 1550-1800 CE; The World of Our Making, 1800 CE-Today; and The World Today. Through 100 objects from the British Museum, we journey through human evolution, exploring where we came from and who we are. The exhibits start with a two-million-year-old stone tool from Tanzania and end with the 'Prototype Foot-controlled Car' by UAE University students. The publication includes an essay by curator Becky Allen of the British Museum.
