Seeing Through Light The Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi exhibition 'Seeing Through Light', held at Manarat Al Saadiyat in 2014, was the first display of works from the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi collection. This publication focuses on the featured works of 19 international artists, from the 1960s to the present day. The chapters follow the exhibition gallery themes of Activated, Celestial, Perceptual, Reflected and Transcendent light. From abstract paintings to large installations, the works illuminate the dynamic field of contemporary art.The artists featured aree: Ghada Amer, Keith Sonnier, Otto Piene, Yayoi Kusama, Larry Bell, Song Dong, Samia Halaby, Angela Bulloch, Mounir Shahroudy Farmanfarmain, Dan Flavin, Shirazeh Houshiary, Robert Irwin, Y. Z. Kami, Hassan Khan, Bharti Kher, Rachid Koraichi, Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, Heinz Mack and Doug Wheeler. This publication includes essays by curator Susan Davidson and co-curators Maisa Al Qassimi and Sasha Kalter-Wasserm. Nan Rosenthal's historical essay 'Light Art'* was re-published in this publication in English and Arabic. * Art in America, Vol. 55, no. 3 (May-June 1967)

Presence' was the second exhibition of works from the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi collection, held at Manarat Al Saadiyat in 2017. It featured more than 20 international artists and highlighted their interconnections through the themes of performative practice, process and human presence. This publication accompanied the exhibition and features essays by curator Valerie Hillings, Reem Fadda, Maisa Al Qassimi, Sasha Kalter-Wasserman, Alexandra Munroe, Sandhini Poddar, Sarah Dwider and Munira Al Sayegh. There is also an interview with Hassan Sharif (1951–2016) by Reem Fadda. The first chapter focuses on novel approaches to painting through physical actions and use of everyday materials; the second on conceptual art practices in the United Arab Emirates since the 1980s, such as the work of Hassan Sharif. The third chapter features installations since 2000 which offer powerful sensory encounters, as well as the impact of sociopolitical events and movements on art

10 Years of Emirates Photography Competition

The Emirates Photography Competition captured the transformation of the United Arab Emirates into a global tourism and cultural destination over a 10-year period. It also highlighted the talents of Emirati and international photographers from around the world. The 2017 exhibition — '10 Years of Emirates Photography Competition' — marked its conclusion, presenting a selection of the winning works and best entries over the previous decade. This photo book by the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi accompanied the show. Two hundred prints are featured in 10 sections: Monochrome; Colour; Creative; Journalism; Portrait and People; Sport and Action; Travel; Nature and Wildlife; Emirati Photographers; and Portfolio.
